The Walla Walla Wine Charlatan
It’s always a shame when the NY Times neglects to interview the charlatan.
I reference the Wine Charlatan’s most recent blog post because it addresses the issue of taste and cost, something we’ve been discussing much of late.
Do we appreciate something more when we know it’s more expensive? What is it that really drives our pleasure?
The Charlatan has an interesting take on the debate, mentioning the higher cost of “quality” grapes, but also noting the importance of setting, environment, and company.
Where and with whom do you choose to drink and how does that affect your perception of the drink itself?
This takes me back to the early stages of this blog, when I discussed the fellowship aspect of wine. Yes, I do believe it’s about community. And as Pablo Neruda wrote,
I love to have on the table,
while people are talking,
the light of a bottle
of intelligent wine,…
