Manhattan loves Walla Walla wine

by amy on February 6, 2008

Marisa D’Vari had some nice things to say about our local wine on her website, A Wine Story. Plus there’s a pic of Northstar winemaker David Merfeld. I’ve always known him as “Merf”. Honestly, didn’t even know his first name. But shh, don’t tell him that.

The reason I mention D’Vari’s post is because I am fascinated by how incredibly popular Walla Walla wines in particular (out of a great Washington wine selection) tend to be in New York. My sister was on a sales trip to New York and returned saying she’d felt like a celebrity of sorts. I’m kind of jealous of her getting to NY before me, but that’s an entirely different issue. The wine has a story to tell here. And apparently that story includes a lot of love from the East Coast.

She says Walla Walla wines are “known for their freshness, acidity, and fruit.”

Check out her top picks. Anyone notice that she likes the 2004 Camille? Remember what Gary Vaynerchuk had to say about the 2003? “Big turn!” I still want to do a side-by-side tasting. See my Gary V does WA again post from December.
