Catie stole Drew Bledsoe!

by amy on November 15, 2007

Okay, so I suppose “stole” isn’t really fair. But as I was working on an article on how a good ol’ Walla Walla boy has started a winery, Flying B Vineyard, on his home turf, I saw that the Wild Walla Walla Wine Woman posted this today.

Homie Makes Wine – Drew Bledsoe

With Walla Walla being the Washington state capital of world class wines, it seems only natural that homies-done-good come back to open their own wineries. Retired NFL player, Drew Bledsoe is opening up a small (under 250,000 liters) winery, Flying B Vineyards. It appears at this time, Flying B Vineyards wine will be produced at Artifex Wine Company. Artifex, located at the former Crown Cork and Seal Building, is a winery that offers custom crush services here in the Walla Walla Valley…. [read more]

About a month ago, I came across an article in the Dallas Morning News. No sour grapes from retired Bledsoe | SportsDay: Football: Cowboys

Yes, Drew Bledsoe is from Walla Walla. And the man now has a winery. This article from the Dallas Morning News tells a little more about what this WaHi alum is doing now, including his take on the Cowboys vs. Patriots.

Here’s the subheading: “After football, ex-quarterback has no complaints, just a little wine.”

I strongly prefer Catie’s post with her personal recollections to the Dallas News article. Nicely done, Catie. The personal stories get me every time. I love the personal connections. My sister’s boyfriend, Stacy, has photos in the family home of his brother playing football in the street with Bledsoe back in the day – just a few blocks from my home.

FYI, Bledsoe loves his iPhone! (And who wouldn’t?) He and Stacy had a nice little geek session comparing their iPhones during a recent photo shoot. Good taste all around. And in case anyone is wondering – yes, I know this is a total side note – an iPhone is the only thing on my Christmas Wish List this year.

Hey Amy!
As my grandfather use to say, “The early bird catches the Flying B.”
Cheers!

It’s true. iPhones are great and geeking out about them is an uncontrollable side effect. I think I have a photo of the tri-fecta: drew, surrounded by barrels of his wine AND using his iPhone! :)

Stacy B-PLEASE share the photo. I miss seeing Drew every weekend so any pix would help ease the pain.
Thank you,

I am very happy to hear that Drew opened a winery. I am a huge Boston area sports fan, and Drew Bledsoe is one of my all time favorites. He and coach Parcells are the ones who brought the Patriots to respectibility. please let me know where I can score a couple of bottles. one for me and a couple for gifts….LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!

1. why isn’t Drew Bledsoe in the Patriots hall of fame? I had to get that off my chest. As a huge Patriots fan, I remain loyal to Drew as “the one” who started the dynasty but was robbed of some of the glory. Congratulations to him for the winery and coffee business. He’s a class act. I wish he’d go on ESPN once & while so I could see him!
