Rain, Champagne, and a little Starbucks

This weekend I drove across the state to Silver Lake Park by Maple Falls for my cousin’s wedding. About thirty miles east of Bellingham, it’s a beautiful spot. Although I knew it was risky for October, I still decided to camp for the weekend.

It poured.

Thankfully there was no rain during the actual ceremony as we gathered in a large gazebo at 10 a.m., warming by a fire in the center. It was a short and sweet wedding, the still lake behind the happy couple. Then came the toasts. As we cheered the newlyweds, my friend Joe turned to me and pointed out that I was double fisting it. Sure enough. And total Washington style. Hot coffee in one hand. Champagne in the other.

I woke up the next morning to water dripping on my forehead. I have a good tent, but after two days of rain, even a rainfly needs a break. So what’s a Washingtonian to do?

Brew some more coffee and open up another bottle of bubbly!

  • If you’re going to be double fisting it, it’s all about the setting and it seems that you had the perfect setting. Maybe it’s just because I’m a Washingtonian too, but the truth is that I’m enticed.
